Twitter Service Domain

There’s a huge audience available on Twitter and as such there are a huge number of websites and business taking advantage of this fact. Taking an otherwise normal service and applying a Twitter touch to it seems to be a sure fire way of bringing in the traffic. Today’s concept and subsequent domain falls into that classification.

Ad Marketplace

The recent influx of digital advertising marketplaces such as AdBrite, Text-Link-Ads and others means that today’s site owner has a huge selection of advertising options, either as an advertiser or a publisher. One thing that all these have in common though is that they take a cut of your profits for the service. What if there was a way for advertisers and publishers to meet and engage without paying huge percentages to the matchmaker?

Brandable 5-Letter Designer Domain

As promised in my previous post I would like to present the first brainchild from my search for new online company names. It is a short domain sitting at just 5 letters in length and is very memorable, as well as apt and brandable for the design industry.

Blog Update for February

The posts lately have been few and far between and because of this, I am sorry. I just wanted to give everyone an update as to what’s going on, what you can look forward to and when.

Recently I’ve been looking at a new domain name and brand; either for this blog, or for my design operation. At the moment this is proving a slow process and I am brainstorming as we speak to come up with something new and resh. This process should result in several posts, some listing available domain names I have found and elected not to use, as well as a single post detailing my methods for coming up with a good brand name (I think this would be a very helpful post for lots of people).

I’ve also been looking at different ways to expand the blog. Although it’s been open only a short time, it already has a reasonable following. Currently I plan to extend the blog to feature inspiring new startups and also articles about thought processes and how to come up with great ideas of your own. I also hope to introduce a feature shortly so users can suggest ideas and startups that could be covered.

I think in the end this post is as much a notice as a plea. If you have an ideas regarding either the new brand name or new content for the site please feel free to share your thoughts. Bouncing ideas off a community is one of the best ways to get useful feedback and suggestions for your concept.

Million Dollar Domain Names

I’m sure every budding entrepreneur has heard of The Million Dollar Homepage - the tale of the man who brought a unique twist to an old concept. It’s a testament to the opportunities offered by the internet to any truly creative thinkers. This is a site that will be online for years to come as a digital artefact of ingenuity.

Form Design for Designers

It’s long been a fact that when designers and developers work with clients, the best results come when the client is willing and able to provide the most information about their project. Creative Republic offers a great selection of free and paid document templates, but it concerns me that a web-based project questionnaire is still operated through offline forms. It appears that even with the wide variety of form design tools available, there is still nothing perfectly suited to the web design and development industry.

Blind Dating 2.0

During my ‘compulsary’ web browsing today I came across an article on Tech Crunch. To give a quick summary it was ultimately looking at the current trend of web sites & services being adapted for mobile browsing, more specifically online dating. This was enough to trigger an idea for a tool that would be perfectly suited for mobile dating, and online dating as a whole.

While it is far from my area of expertise, it is my understanding that it is possible to send SMS through internet gateways so that they reach a mobile phone. Furthermore it is possible to cloak these messages to a degree where you would be unable to tell who sent it in the first place. The availability of this is something that would allow for a ‘blind dating’ style feature on a dating service.

The World Record Domain

This domain was registered on the day of posting. If the person who registered it could make a comment letting us know your intentions and keep us updated that would be great. This is the main reason I wanted to post available domains.

It’s been a little while since my last available domain post so I thought it was time for another, even though the other available domain I posted is still, in fact, available.

Used License Marketplace

Without doubt the most efficient way of starting a new venture on the web is using a ready-made script. There is a huge variety available these days covering almost every niche you can think of and chances are that there is a script that can closely match what you need. This helps to reduce to startup costs and almost guarantees you won’t have any teething problems like you might with a bespoke script.

Paid scripts work by issuing licenses with a purchase. These licenses can last anywhere between 3 months to a lifetime (or so they claim). The question what happens to these licenses when the website outgrows the script or simply ceases operation?

Well, with many scripts, especially vBulletin, some used licenses end up for sale on forums and auction sites. It is quite common to see sales threads offering licenses and where the terms allow it, it is perfectly legal, not to mention a great way to get some money back from your initial investment.

Re-Design Observer

So what, the post title might be a play on words of one my favourite blogs, but still, it’s a fundamental part of the web cycle; websites get redesigned. Some more often than others, some better than others, but there always will be redesigns. From a designers perspective seeing these redesigns can be as useful, if not more so than the abundance of CSS galleries and design inspiration websites. Successful redesigns of large and well followed websites are likely to offer a great insight as to current and future design trends.

It is an unfortunate fact then that these redesigns are poorly promoted and information about them is scattered across the web.

How about this: a CSS gallery style website detailing all the latest redesigns. This has enormous potential and would be of interest to almost every designer I know, if not a wider audience.
